THRESHOLDS I (the midwest: 2000 - 2008)

The images in thresholds are constructed portraits and self-portraits in which I investigate issues of memory, personal and family history, and identity through interactions with the natural and built environment.

The thresholds in the images are both literal and symbolic: they are the doors and windows and passages through architectural and natural spaces depicted in the images, and are also the limits of memory, of knowledge, of time, of place, and of self that the work metaphorically addresses.
