PLAKATIRANJE
This series was created during an artist residency in Lendava, Slovenia. Plakatiranje refers to "posted bills" -- the informational signs and posters on kiosks around town. Except that there weren't any. The kiosks were empty. I was looking for information about where I was, what was happening there, but there was nothing to be found. I thus made a series of photographs from Lendava that document the empty spaces where information and signage had formerly been around the town -- evidence of where information had been, but no longer is. The images function as abstract compositions created from closely observed and photographed details of Lendava, but also represent my attempt to understand an unfamiliar place and culture, and the difficulties one frequently encounters when seeking information and explanations in the visual world that surrounds us, especially in foreign environments.
